Our Story

“My life no important to me, but other people life important. My life only important if me can help plenty of people.”

Bob Marley

Depicted in his powerful lyrics, and actions throughout his life,  Bob Marley had a genuine concern for all people who were at risk and vulnerable no matter their race, age or religion.

His example has motivated his family to continue his legacy not just through his music, but through his actions.

VISION

Our vision is to positively impact those around us and alleviate poverty by providing aid to vulnerable and underserved communities throughout Jamaica while enacting lasting change.

MISSION

The Bob Marley Foundation is a Jamaican non-profit organization that continues to honour the life and legacy of the Honourable Robert Nesta Marley, OM through community upliftment initiatives focusing on Education, Sports, Culture, Healthcare and Sustainable Development with One Love, One Heart, One Voice.

HOW WE GOT STARTED

The Bob Marley Foundation was founded in 1986 by his wife, the Honourable Dr Alfarita Marley, OJ, OD, LITT (affectionately called ‘Rita’), and has contributed financial, cultural and other resources to various communities and organizations in Jamaica while keeping Bob’s spirit alive.

The Marley family continues to provide philanthropic support through the Bob Marley Foundation in order to honour the memory of the Honourable Robert Nesta Marley, OM and to perpetuate the spiritual, cultural, social and musical ideals and goals which guided and inspired him during his lifetime.

About Bob Marley

A Rasta man, musician, philosopher, advocate and philanthropist, Bob was committed to empowering, transforming and ‘uplifting’ lives.

With a legendary and ever-lengthening list of accomplishments attributable to both his life and music, Bob Marley advocated for social change while simultaneously allowing listeners to forget their troubles and dance.

Bob Marley remains one of the 20th century’s most important and influential icons, as the man who put reggae on the global map.  Marley’s lifestyle and music continue to inspire new generations as his legacy lives on through his music. In the digital era, he has the second-highest social media following of any posthumous celebrity, with the official Bob Marley Facebook page drawing more than 70 million fans, ranking it among the Top 20 of all Facebook pages and Top 10 among celebrity pages.

Marley’s music catalog has sold millions of albums worldwide. His iconic collection LEGEND holds the distinction of being the longest-charting album in the history of Billboard magazine’s Catalog Albums chart and remains the world’s best-selling reggae album. Marley’s accolades include inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1994) and ASCAP Songwriters Hall of Fame (2010), a GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award (2001), multiple entries in the GRAMMY® Hall Of Fame, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2001).  For more information, visit: bobmarley.com and facebook.com/bobmarley.
