Presenters and panellists for the discussion under the theme, “Women of Fortitude: Opportunities to build solidarity between women from South Africa and Jamaica”

During the evening of August 23, 2018, the Bob Marley Foundation and the South African High Commission gathered at the Bob Marley Museum to honour and commemorate the life of Mrs. Albertina Sisulu under the theme, “Women of Fortitude: Opportunities to build solidarity between Women from South Africa and Jamaica”.

In a pre-recorded message, Cedella Marley warmly welcomed guests to her father’s home. Presentations were also made by Senator The Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Mr. Tyrone Gunnie, Acting High Commissioner for the South African High Commission all celebrating Mama Sisulu’s, as she was affectionately called, fight against Apartheid.

Inspired by Mama Sisulu’s outstanding contribution to freedom and democracy in South Africa, a panel of powerful women, namely, Dr. Amina Blackwood-Meeks, Ms. Dania Beckford, Ms. Nomonde Donsa and, Ms. Janet Silver shared their personal experiences and their thoughts on the opportunities to build solidarity between women in Jamaica and South Africa.

From these discussions, it is hoped that concrete proposals can be created for the relevant stakeholders, with the vision of strengthening the relationships between women in South Africa and Jamaica.
